Description
A perfectly-balanced meal for your skin.
Skinutrition Face Serum is not your ordinary face serum. No other face serum on the market contains as many effective, natural skincare ingredients all in one bottle. Formulated to clinically researched proportions, and always organic, you can be sure you’re getting the best there is.
Our unique powerhouse formulation contains all of the clinically-proven nutrients and botanicals, in proper percentages, to deliver a truly effective moisturizing face serum that is excellent for all skin types. Starring hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, vitamin C, green tea extract/EGCG, and babchi, alongside many other deeply nourishing ingredients.
This serum is an emollient, which means it replenishes depleted lipids in the skin. Instead of sitting on top of the skin, it is able to penetrate the skin, moisturizing between cells and strengthening the cell matrix.
This serum does many jobs, apart from intensely hydrating, including boosting natural collagen production, detoxifying and protecting skin from UV rays and pollution, and increasing ceramide synthesis in the skin.
We use a unique vitamin C that is shown to be the most stable, gentle, and bioavailable form and does not take away from other ingredients, as do many commonly used forms of ascorbic acid.
Hyaluronic acid, a key element, absorbs 1000x its weight in water to help bind water to the skin’s surface, resulting in a more supple, glowing complexion and less visible fine lines and wrinkles.
For all skin types. pH balanced. All ingredients are noncomedogenic and good for oily, acne-prone skin.
While it may seem appealing to have concentrated products, formulas with more than 20% L-ascorbic acid can irritate the skin. Most dermatological studies have found that a range between 8-20% produces the best results with limited irritation. A study conducted by Duke University Medical Center found that the concentrations of L-ascorbic acid above 20% do not have increased skin benefits. The study determined that, conversely, higher levels can negatively impact the skin’s condition.
Niacinamide is nature’s perfect skin conditioner. It helps your skin grow a ceramide or lipid barrier, which in turn helps retain moisture. A 5% solution of niacinamide is clinically shown to be the best proportion of vitamin B3 in a topical serum, for the greatest skin benefits and also maintaining pH balance.
We stay with the recommended 2.5% hyaluronic acid content to avoid any irritation to skin. Why do we offer high molecular weight hyaluronic acid instead of low molecular weight hyaluronic acid? HMW HA has been shown less likely to cause skin reactions. LMW HA absorbs into the skin. HMW HA does not (unless the skin barrier is compromised). However, LMW HA triggers inflammation which leads to tissue damage and skin aging. Basically, because LMW HA is broken down, the body recognizes it as a sign of damage which sets off alarm bells.
Green tea (50% EGCG) strengthens critical proteins like collagen and elastin. Research has found that the catechin in green tea kills harmful microorganisms that damage the skin. Our organic green tea extract is the most potent on the market. The unique, proprietary cold process makes our green tea raw, bioactive, and free from unnatural compounds.
Glycerin is a small molecule that is capable of absorbing at the skin’s surface. Conversely, hyaluronic acid is a very large molecule that sits on top of the skin when applied, creating a hydrating cushion. Combining both glycerin and hyaluronic acid provides a superior capacity for binding water and boosting your skin’s hydration.
Glycerin easily penetrates and gets absorbed into the skin without clogging pores while also making it easier for the skin to absorb other active, skin health-enhancing ingredients in our serum. By filling fine lines and miniscule cracks on the skin and by facilitating the regeneration of new skin, glycerin smooths out the complexion for a rejuvenated appearance. Furthermore, it evens out the skin tone to lighten darker areas, thereby diminishing the appearance of unwanted spots and marks.
With cleansing properties that do not strip the skin of its natural oils, glycerin works to keep the skin free of acne-causing bacteria. It regulates oil production, soothes itching and dryness, eliminates congestion in the pores, nourishes and repairs damage, contributes shine to dullness, maintains elasticity, and contributes sun protective properties to guard against the harmful effects of UV radiation. By maintaining water balance, glycerin’s humectant quality reduces moisture loss caused by evaporation, thus keeping the hair and skin hydrated.
Instead of retinol, we use babchi/bakuchi oil. Babchi is a safer and more effective retinol alternative. It has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-tumor, anti-bacterial and hepatoprotective abilities. Babchi oil has a whole host of skincare benefits in addition to its traditional medicinal uses. It works as a brightening moisturizer for all skin types and improves skin tone. What makes babchi special is the recent discovery that it behaves on the skin in a way very similar to well-known retinol. While chemically, it has nothing to do with the vitamin-A family, aka retinoids, comparative gene expression profiling (a fancy way of saying that they compared how retinol and bakuchi modify the way skin cells behave and produce important skin proteins such as collagen) shows that retinol and bakuchi regulate skin cell behavior in a similar way, but bakuchi is superior. They both reduce the appearance of fine lines and improve skin texture. However, using retinol on skin involves the risk of discoloration, dryness, redness, inflammation, irritation, and dermatologists don’t recommend retinol during pregnancy or breastfeeding (it’s toxic!). Retinol can negatively interact with other exfoliation ingredients or toners to cause irritation. Unlike retinol, babchi plays nicely with other skincare ingredients. You can use babchi alongside a vitamin C serum, squalane, hyaluronic acid, glycerin, aloe, or niacinamide. Compared to retinol, babchi is high in antioxidants. When it’s used on wounds, it helps to regenerate the epidermis. It’s not just a safer alternative to retinol but appears to work better against skin aging because of its antioxidant and firming properties. Here are some other ways babchi benefits the skin: Reduces dark spots, hyperpigmentation, scars, and discoloration, good for acne-prone skin, improves elasticity, fights free radicals to protect skin cells, boosts collagen production to restore firmness, adds hydration, good for dry skin, leaves skin feeling fresh and nourished, antioxidant, aids in tissue repair by increasing white blood cell count. Some serums use bakuchiol, a highly processed form of bakuchi. Bakuchi is the pure, pressed seed oil of the plant. We use bakuchi seed oil in this recipe for several reasons. It’s not processed like bakuchiol and it’s oil soluble. Bakuchiol is only one of the constituents derived from the babchi plant. The components of the whole plant work synergistically together.
Additionally, rosehip seed oil contains a natural form of Vitamin A and trans-retinoic acid, which promote a healthier looking, more youthful complexion. Rosehip is renowned for its skin regenerating, anti-aging properties. It contains high levels of essential fatty acids and antioxidant Vitamin E. It’s a dry oil that is easily absorbed, making it ideal in facial oils.
Panthenol (B5) is incredibly moisturizing and healing. Aloe is a do-it-all staple that any skincare serum must include for its many prized benefits to the skin, including healing, softening, toning, and sealing in moisture. Sea buckthorn, squalane, and tamanu are among the most nourishing plant-based oils found the world over. A small amount of olive oil delivers highly beneficial triterpenes and hempseed oil has many unique skin-loving properties. Avocado oil is packed with vitamins and increases skin collagen. It also protects against age spots, regenerates tissues, and is anti-inflammatory. Jojoba oil helps skin stay hydrated to look young, is regenerative, and toning to skin cells. It controls oily skin and protects the skin’s acid mantle. Argan oil is anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, moisturizing, and full of free radical fighting antioxidants.
All of the hand-selected essential oils work together in similar ways to be calming and soothing for all sorts of skin irritations (and the mind). They are good for mature skin, dry, itchy, or inflamed skin, wrinkles, too much sebum production, and lower stress levels. They reduce inflammation, strengthen the immune system, and have antiseptic, antibacterial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal properties, which help to heal.
Our face serum wouldn’t be the marvel it is without each and every one of the important constituents we’ve included.
